Mo. judge rejects lawsuit against casino measure

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A state judge rejects a lawsuit seeking to knock a casino initiative off the November ballot.

The initiative would repeal Missouri's unique gambling loss limit, cap licenses for new casinos and raise casino taxes to increase funding for education.

Critics contended the measure illegally included multiple subjects and had an unclear title.

An attorney representing them argued Friday that the measure was an attempt to "log roll" voters by getting them to approve the measure because they support part of its various elements, though it's likely they oppose others.

Cole County Judge Richard Callahan said Monday that the casino measure does use log rolling. But he sided with casino measure backers anyway, saying the various elements involve the same subject.
