Updates on Qdoba's opening in Cape, new Drury Inn and Suites in SikestonWednesday, October 15, 2008
My colleague Rudi Keller reported on June 6 that long-time Cape Girardeau automobile dealer Jerry Wieser was going into partnership with his son, Keith Wieser, and son-in-law, Richard Davidson, with the aim of opening three Qdoba Mexican Grill locations in the next three years. Tuesday afternoon Davidson updated me on their progress. Davidson expects the first of four Qdobas to open by early-to-mid March. The partners are finalizing a lease on the Cape Girardeau location. You may hear an announcement on the location in the west part of town in the next two weeks. After Cape Girardeau, the partners plan to open one Qdoba in Paducah, Ky., and two in Southern Illinois. I don't know who all has eaten at a Qdoba (for some reason or another I never got around to eating at the location in Lincoln, Neb., while I was living there), but from what I hear it's a pretty popular restaurant. Since the first Qdoba opened in Denver 13 years ago, the franchise has grown to 440 locations. And Davidson is excited about what the future holds for his four Qdobas. "This franchise is really growing up all across the U.S.," Davidson said. "We felt like this was something that aws needed here for our community to enjoy."
Sikeston's Drury Inn and Suites to open by January Since moving to Cape Girardeau in late May I've traveled to Sikeston, Mo., a few times to enjoy one of their restaurants famous for their throwed rolls. While there I've noticed some construction taking place on a new Drury Inn and Suites in the town. Company vice president of development Joe Pereles told me they expect to open their newest hotel in Sikeston by January. The new five-story, 155-room hotel will join two existing Drury hotels, the Pear Tree Inn and the Drury Inn. Once Drury Inn and Suites is finished, the Pear Tree Inn's name will change to Thrifty Inn and the Drury Inn to Pear Tree Inn. Another entity's proposed conference center would sit next door to Drury Inn and Suites. "It'll be a new product for those traveling on Interstate 55 who want to spend a relaxing evening here," Pereles said. "Since our last hotel was built in 1995, this newest edition will be something the entire community can be proud of."

I went to BeefOBrady's on Sunday. It was really good, crowded, and the service was great. The food came out really quick. I was quite pleased.
Went to Beef O'Brady's on Thursday for lunch and I thought it was OK. Had the chicken philly with curly fries and some pineapple cole slaw. Can't remember what the wife had, but I don't remember her complaining about anything. I thought the place would be bigger inside, but other than that I was not turned off by our visit. No problems with the speed of service or quality of food or lack of knowledge of the wait staff. Although this place will probably not become a regular stop on our weekly lunch dates, I'm sure we will go back occasionally.
Since Capeeats isn't around any more, what do you all think of Beef O'Brady's?
I went last weekend and was disappointed in the quality of food and service. Waiters didn't know what the menu was, took too long to take our order, and the food was nothing special.
Yeah... a Qdoba would be great to have. Quality mexican food is a must in this area.
Maybe in addition to opening a Moe's, they could buy the local franchise for the Cinnabon in the mall and open it back up again. There's nothing like a hot fresh Cinnabon on a cool, nippy fall morning.
I believe that anyone who has eaten at both would much prefer a restaurant called MOE'S which similar but has a much better flavor of food on the menu. http://www.moes.com/ I have been working trying to convince some financial people locally to open a franchise here. There is a new one in Carbondale (where else) past the mall on the road to Kohls and Kroger. Check it out! You won't go back to Burritoville!
I agree that we need a Zaxbys here. It'll be interesting to see how the restaurant industry fares in this economy. Financial expert Jim Cramer predicts people will eat out more in the coming months and years and that will raise the stock of spice company McCormick.
Someone out there ... please open a Zaxby's in Cape ... http://www.zaxbys.com/ !
