Fresh off its first place finish in the Arkansas State University Playday on Sept. 27, the Scott City volleyball team blasted through three more teams last week to improve to 21-1-2.

Brooke Simpson played a big role in the Rams‚ recent success.

She had 55 kills and 20 blocks to lead Scott City in its tourney triumph in Jonesboro, Ark.

Simpson had nine kills on Sept. 29 to lead the Rams in a 25-13, 25-21 victory against perennial power Leopold.

She added 22 kills and 19 digs in Scott City‚s 25-15, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18 victory against Winona.

To conclude the week, Simpson had 23 kills in the Rams‚ 25-21, 29-31, 25-22, 26-24 victory against another perennial small-school power, Scott City.

"She definitely has the experience, and she's very vocal on the floor," Scott City coach Haley Jennings said earlier this year. "She reads the floor very well. She's not afraid to tell somebody, 'Hey, you need to be doing that' or 'Hey, you need to be doing this.' And that's what I like to see in someone on the floor because obviously I can't get on the floor with them."
