Outpouring of goodwill

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

To the editor:

In January 2007 I was diagnosed with a primary brain tumor. My prognosis was not good and still isn't. But I have good general health, a positive attitude and a loving family, and I live in a wonderful town full of generous, compassionate people. I'm happy to be alive and surrounded by good people.

During my treatment, we received an outpouring of goodwill from the people of this town, a town where I am barely known and not a native. I don't know who supported us in our time of tribulation, and I can't thank you individually, or enough. So I would like to thank you all for your support and compassion. Moving to Cape Girardeau was perhaps the second-wisest decision I've ever made. Marrying well was the wisest.

Thank you, and I am sure that God will reward you for your benevolence. My wife, children and I certainly do appreciate it, and God appears to be in my corner. I might add that U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill and U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson also jumped into the fray on my behalf. I feel well represented.
