Investigation continues into heist at Cape Girardeau Bank of MissouriMonday, October 6, 2008
Local and federal authorities continue to investigate a bank robbery that occurred Monday afternoon at the Bank of Missouri of 372 S. Kingshighway, and a suspect hasn't yet been arrested. Cape Girardeau police received a call at 12:08 p.m., that a male suspect entered the bank, approached an available teller, and slipped a note across the desk, according to Cpl. Jason Selzer, spokesman for the police department. The note demanded money and the suspect, who displayed a pistol, escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash, Selzer said. No one one inside the bank recalled seeing a car pull out of the parking lot, but police used canine Bolo to track a potential trail, and it stopped several hundred feet south of the bank property. It is unknown at this time whether the suspect is still on foot. Cape Girardeau evidence technicians remained at the scene this afternoon checking surfaces inside the bank for fingerprints. A surveillance video captured a photo of the alleged robbery suspect, a man described as over six feet tall, with light colored — possibly red — hair, a beard and wearing a baseball cap. The suspect is thought to have fled in a southeast direction. Check back at semissourian.com for more on this story, or read Tuesday's print edition of the Southeast Missourian. Related Links

I would say that by the temperature outside at noon that the guy probably had tatoo's or a scar on his arms. He wore long sleeves probably to hide anything that would stand out to the teller for a better description. This guy's beard is also a short term item as well. His eye glasses were fake as well. Everything about him is textbook. He is most likely a professional.
Robert: You forgot to take your medication today. You might want to double dose tomorrow.
What is all the hubbub about? It's an honest profession.
This man is obviously employed in asset recoverey.
The banks are forcably taking our assets, thanks to the Wall Street banker bail out bill that Jo Ann Emerson voted for twice last week.
This gentlman is just going to the bank to make a withdrawal of funds that he does not wish to contribute to the bail out, especially, since it includes Emerson's approved provision to bail out foreign banks.
He is not armed, and appears like a very nice guy. Let's give him a break. After all, during the great depression of the 1930's, some gentlemen would kidnap bankers and hold them for ransom. This man did not kidnap a scum sucking banker, he simply made an unauthorized withdrawal of funds. There is no crime being committed, just a misunderstanding.
There will soon come a day, when you will cheer the bank robber, smile when a banker is kidnapped, and not pause for a second, when a banker is sent home to Jesus. That is what eventually happened during the Great Depression. You all have no idea how bad that things are going to get around here. You are not prepared for what is coming our way.
I told you so.
it looks like someone took a picture of a computer moniter
anyway that is probably a good enough pic, the dummy didnt wear gloves so Im sure there are some finger prints on the doors/counters if they can sort through em all.
First off, surveillance cameras aren't there to take high-res images of the bank at all times. That's too big file-size wise. Not to mention that the police department either didn't screen-capture the image, or didn't email semissourian the image. They probably instead printed it and handed that over. Which means the photographer snapped an image of paper instead of scanning it, further deteriorating the quality. The image quality of the menus at the top of image tells me that the cops printer wasn't very good.
I don't know why some of you even bother attacking each other, attacking the cops, attacking the paper, or attacking their hardware. Your time would be better spent addressing the problem on why he wanted/needed to steal in the first place. I can only assume the man didn't steal for sport. Though, it's still no excuse.
There have several bank robberies just in Cape over the last 10 years. They happen quite often in some areas.
It looks like the picture was taken with a cell phone or something. Even the control area at the top of the screen is grainy and not just the image.
I listen to the scanner almost daily and I'm very happy with the overall response of the PD and FD to calls.
I'm stunned at the poor quality of the surveillance system utilized by the bank. Are they all this horrible? They have all the money, surely they would want to invest in a higher quality system. They could get a fantastic system for a small branch like that for $15,000 or less and have decent high-res photos. There are restaurants in this town that have better surveillance than this.
I am proud of Cape PD for responding so quickly and so intensly. I, too, hope Bolo gets a bite-o of this bad dude.
Hey, wait a minute...isnt that Brett Farve?
You'd think with all the technology and modern surveillance equipment, banks especially, would be able to get a better/clearer image of people, and in color. Kudos to the bank of missouri for using off the shelf surveillance equipment that isn't meant for anything more than peace of mind!
TOO BAD THAT THERE ISN'T A CLEARER PICTURE OF THE SUSPECT.I think that it is so hard to tell what these guys really look like thru these grainy photos.
Does anyone know if the robbery is related to the one in Lee's Summit last week? They sound similar(at least from the newspaper articles I have read.)
I think its great to see a huge force of law enforcement looking for the suspect. I guess Casey2002 you wouldnt be complaining if the suspect decided to hide out in your house. I would think you'd be thankful there were so many looking for him. Or came into the dr's office you were at and decided to take you hostage. But congrats to Cape PD for searching for the suspect!
futile_rant
Exactly, if it were not for his disguise it would be hard to make out any identifying features.
He looks like the type that would write give me your money on the back of his deposit slip.
I hope the canine Bolo gets a piece of his backside before he is handcuffed.
who the hell robs a banks these days?
casey2002
Armed suspect is why there is such a show of force. Duh! I applaud the quick response from Cape PD and other agencies in addressing this quickly.
I hope they catch this punk.
Yes indeed, quite a show of force over on Bloomfield
