I'm smelling coffee

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Until about a year ago, drinking coffee was a rare event. But a summer of working at the Washington Times in our nation’s capital changed my opinion about the popular drink. Since a cup of Joe was served at nearly every event I covered or attended after hours, I slowly acquired a taste for coffee, though I still pour in three to four creamers and sugar packets to give the drink some needed flavor.

Coffee lovers like myself always are looking for a new place to satisfy our taste buds. While Cape Girardeau and Jackson have their fair share of coffee shops, it’ll be interesting to see how the newest one in Jackson will perform.

With a planned opening date of mid-October, Coffee and Confections will serve gourmet coffees, herbal teas and baked goods such as cinnamon rolls, muffins, brownies and cookies. For those monitoring their health or watching their waistline, a selection of diabetic and low-fat foods will be offered as well.

Located in the Shaper's Shopping Center near Delmonicos and Main Street Lanes off West Main Street, the coffee shop featuring Wi-fi access will be open 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Owner Melinda Wehrle said it has taken about a year to develop the concept.

"I felt like Jackson needed something like this," Wehrle said. "The location is also a plus, with plenty of parking and not far from the heart of Jackson."

Pawn shop relocates

Money Time Pawn has moved its operations to 2112 Broadway. It had previously been located at 1901 Independence St. The hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

REAL coffee drinkers don't add anything to their coffee! Cup-n-Cork has the best brew in Cape. I'll try the Jackson place, though.

Sorry about the delay. I should have been more clear. I am posting new info about five businesses. Some are just starting up and some are moving buildings or renovating their existing space.
Here are some things I'm working on. I'd hope to post more detailed info before adding more business news, but here you go:
Pizza Pro of Jackson will be moving to another part of the town.
Grandma B's Gift Shop at the corner of Shawnee Blvd. and Old Cape Rd. will be opening soon in Jackson.
American Motors Auto Sales in Cape Girardeau is moving to another location on Broadway.
More business news will be added throughout the week. You'll read a complete report in my Monday business column.

Nice to see the business news back....I thought you said you had 5 new business's to report on? Sorry, not to be a jerk, but I look forward to this information and you had said you would have it up Tuesday, and it was not.
