Crowell endorsed by teachers groupTuesday, September 30, 2008
Here's an item that slipped by while I was on vacation: The Missouri State Teachers Association has endorsed Sen. Jason Crowell for re-election in the 27 District state Senate race. Crowell, a Cape Girardeau Republican, faces Linda Sanders, a Jackson Democrat, in the contest. The Missouri State Teachers Association is the more conservative of teacher's groups compared to the Missouri National Education Association or the American Federation of Teachers. "Jason Crowell has a good understanding of the issues facing teachers, students and parents and we know he will support our schools," Mike Wood, MSTA director of governmental relations said in a prepared statement. Crowell also reported through a news release that on Sept. 19 he received the Missouri Bar's 2008 Legislative Award. It is the third time he has received the award from the statewide organization for Missouri attorneys.

Simply unbelieveable that MSTA would endorse Jason Crowell. He has not been a strong supporter of public schools and dances whenever Rex Sinquefield drops a dime in his pocket. If he's a friend, teachers certainly don't need enemies.
State and local politics are a little different than it is on the national level. Our elected officials have to be a little more populist and respond as broadly as possible to a wide range of philosophies regardless of their party status. Senator Crowell does as good a job as can be expected to straddle that line. Some issues he supports has me nodding in full agreement and others give me goose pimples - but I understand his position and what he's trying to accomplish. He communicates well and makes a full effort to understand the implications of his actions. I can see why he would get support from a broad spectrum of groups. The good people of his district would do well to re-elect this dedicated citizen.
