Scott City sweeps Notre Dame to open season 2-0

The Scott City volleyball team won its second straight match to start the season, beating host Notre Dame 25-15, 25-22 on Wednesday night.

Katie Diebold had a strong all-around match for the Rams with 12 assists, eight service aces, five kills and four digs.

Brooke Simpson led in kills with nine and added eight digs.

Stephanie Essner had eight digs and three kills; Katie Hogan had a team-high nine digs and three blocks; and Jordan McFall contributed 11 assists, two aces and two digs.

Meghan Dohogne paced Notre Dame (4-3-1) in kills with nine and Kelsey Bradshaw led in digs with 15. Shannon Brennan had nine assists and four digs.

JV — Notre Dame won in three games.

Saxony Lutheran 25 25 Sikeston 12 9

The Crusaders had no trouble picking up a road victory.

Taylor Krauss led Saxony Lutheran with 14 digs, Brooke Kasten had eight assists, Kara Versemann recorded five kills and Holly Schermann served five aces.

JV — Saxony Lutheran won in two games.

SOFTBALL

Kelly 11, Sikeston 1

Casey Kern had a triple among her three hits and delivered four RBIs to lead the Hawks' home romp.

Katee Moore and Londyn Backfisch each added two hits for Kelly (7-1).

Danielle Dock pitched the final five innings for the victory. She allowed no runs and one hit while striking out seven and walking none.
