Sikeston police to start vehicle checkpoints

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

SIKESTON, Mo. — Traffic enforcement in and around Sikeston is on the increase.

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety announced Monday it will conduct checkpoints in the community, most of which will be centered in and around the main points of entering and exiting the city. According to a DPS news release, checkpoints will be designed to check for driver's licenses, seat belts, insurance cards and sobriety.

Not to inconvenience anyone for a long period of time, the goal is to keep motorists as safe as possible, officials said.

Whatever! Just another way for Sikeston DPS to do something besides deal with the real criminals. It is a lot easier to write someone a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt than to get the crack dealers off the street.

ahhhh another opportuntity to raise funds for the police department and the city. that's what this is all about. nothing to do with safety in any way whatsoever. this is about raising money for the city coffers. why lie about it? why not just tell the truth?
