A booming Friday morning inside and outside the newsroom

Saturday, August 23, 2008

Since Aug. 14, I've been working a 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. shift, so we can have better coverage in the early morning hours. As part of our move to a 24-hour newsroom we understand the importance of having adequate on-line coverage.

Every day was mostly non-eventful - that is, until Friday. I'm sure many of you out there were awoken by nature's thunderous roars and impressive lightning show. I wonder if any of you had flashbacks to the record rainfall in March. That made for a busy morning news day here at the Southeast Missourian. For the majority of Friday I followed up on the latest flooding, power outages and motor vehicle accidents in Southeast Missouri. One detail that stood out in my mind was one car rolled over on Interstate 55, yet no injuries were reported. While I don't know any more details about the accident, intuition tells me the driver may have been wearing his or her seatbelt.
