Hulshof joins GOP energy protestThursday, August 21, 2008
WASHINGTON (AP) — Missouri Rep. Kenny Hulshof is joining his Republican colleagues in their call for a House vote on expanding oil drilling in federal waters that are now off-limits. Hulshof took a break from his bid for governor in Missouri to follow the lead of more than 100 Republican lawmakers who have addressed the empty U.S. House chamber during the August recess. Energy policy has become an issue in the governor's race. Democratic candidate Jay Nixon is airing a television ad criticizing Hulshof for supporting billions in tax breaks to big oil companies. Hulshof called on Democratic leaders to allow a vote on opening up offshore areas and the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve in Alaska to more exploration. He also wants to encourage more oil drilling in Missouri. Respond to this story You are not logged in. Please login or create an account.
