Neal E. Boyd watch parties happening on Southeast campusWednesday, August 20, 2008
Southeast Missouri State University is planning an "America's Got Talent" watch party for Tuesday, when NBC's popular competition show returns to television following the Olympics. Southeast alumnus Neal E. Boyd is one of the finalists on the show, competing for $1 million and a shot at his own Las Vegas show. Boyd initially appeared on the show's first episode in June, performing the the opera piece "Nessun Dorma" and moving on to the next round. The tenor last appeared on the show Aug. 7, moving on to the finals with an opera-style performance of "Unchained Melody." Poster, fliers and messages have gone out to the Southeast community urging students, faculty, staff and alumni to watch the show and vote for Boyd. Campus watch parties are planned throughout the campus, including on various residence hall floors and at the Student Recreation Center-North. A communitywide watch party is planned for the University Center where viewers will be provided with refreshments and computers will be available for voting for Boyd online. "America's Got Talent" will air from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. For more information on Boyd, visit the Southeast Missourian's page devoted to the tenor, "America's Voice," at semissourian.com/Boyd.
