Chaffee's public works director resigns positionTuesday, August 19, 2008
CHAFFEE, Mo. — Eric Hicks, director of public works for the city of Chaffee, resigned his position Monday after eight years of service, less than two weeks after blurting out his resignation at a special city council meeting. Hicks did not attend Monday night's council meeting, but submitted a letter of resignation, read by Mayor Loretta Mohorc. In the letter, Hicks, who has been on a 10-day medical leave for stress, described the last four years as "miserable," saying he felt personally harassed by members of the council. Sept. 1 will be Hicks' last day. He submitted his two weeks notice but plans to take a week's vacation. He is seeking reimbursement for the rest of his comped time. In the letter, Hicks complained of being subjected to "an investigation" by Councilman Jack Nordin — the man who urged him to accept the job eight years ago. The council agreed to place an ad in the newspaper seeking a replacement for Hicks. At a special meeting of the council Aug 9, Hicks announced his resignation at the tail end of the meeting, after it had already been adjourned, but said later he may reconsider. Related Links

the man has never spoke to me, but the at council meetings its just sad how he doesnt want to cooperate with anyone and how he obviously doesnt want change for the city. as for anything else dont know he may be a great friend to people who agree with him.
NICE???????? THAT IS ABOUT THE LAST WORD ANYONE SHOULD USE TO DECRIBE JACK NORDIN. HE IS A SNAKE IN GRASS. SUCH A BACKSTABBER, AND AS FAR AS HIS PLUMBING SKILLS, I DON'T THINK YOU PEOPLE KNOW HIM.

as said before. brad u. and mr hicks obviously may have been tired of putting up with all the red tape and bullsh*t. i just think its sad that we cant keep good hard working people in city posititions. i can say for a fact that chaffee's public works gets alot better benefits than the cape city workers. their insurance rates are rediculous and their pay isnt that great. yes i think all people in this field should get a good salary becuase of having to do manual hard labor in the elements (rain, snow, and very hot weather. I think we need to put ron moyers, and jack nordin on the public works and see how much gets done. . ha... there would be lots of things come up missing then. oh did I say that!!!
I can't believe that you all are so happy that Mr. Hicks left. I almost guarentee that none of you know him except for what you have read on here where the paper portrays him as something bad when, in fact, he's not. Mr. Hicks is a great man, a hard worker and yeah he will tell it like it is. I'm glad he left just because of all the sh*t that people have been giving him when he has done nothing but help your community. Looks like it just gonna keep on getting worse.
I want to say something about Brad, he was a great worker. But, maybe he wanted to try something else. Better pay, better benefits. Maybe he felt he was going nowhere. Ask his supervisor why he left.

Everyone needs to decide who owns that town, whoops I mean who runs that town so things can get done. Maybe they just need to decide who will be KING of Chaffee and then they can deal with all the BS. Pretty soon you won't want to drive thru Chaffee like you do Cairo or maybe that is already the case??????
Jack Nordin may seem like an ***hole but thats only b/c he tells it like it is!! I like him for that. I also agree about getting rid of Michelle Williams. Now that is what you call an ***hole!!!
Well, that's one jerk gone...Now if we could just get the elem. school principal to leave we'd be off to a better start of things..
Citizens of Chaffee need to wake up and vote some people on the council that can get things accomplished. Jack is an as*hole and everyone knows it. The mayor is a crybaby who only cares about how things look, not how they function...mow your yards, clean up your trash...who cares if the water is causing cancer. The rest of them hire relatives that steal from the city. We can't keep a police chief because the council won't let them do their job. No wonder Chaffee is in the shape it's in, and no one is to blame except for the voters.
I'm personally glad Hicks is gone. He was a waste. One down and several more to go!!!
How can a guy deal with such stress? I understand that a lot of winter days were spent cooking in the shop. But, Mr. Nordin was there as well. I hope the city can go forward and clean up this mess. Maybe someone will have time to look into the water and street problems.
