N.C. man being held in Scott County on sexual assault charges

Scott County officers arrested an 18-year-old North Carolina man on sexual assault charges Wednesday.

Jeremy L. Leatherman, 18, of Morganton, N.C., faces one count of sexual misconduct involving a child younger than 14.

Leatherman's bond has been set at $10,000 cash, according to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter. Leatherman is being held in the Scott County Jail.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred at a Scott County residence just south of Kelso, Mo.

The sheriff's department received a complaint Tuesday from the victim's grandmother, Walter said.

Leatherman admitted to inappropriate conduct with the victim during interviews with county investigators, Walter said.
