Missouri casino revenue goes up despite economic strugglesTuesday, August 12, 2008
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The economy may be struggling, but Missouri's casino gambling industry isn't. The latest figures from the Missouri Gaming Commission shows that overall casino gambling revenue rose 7 percent in July to nearly $147 million. The Lumiere Place casino in St. Louis had revenue of $14.3 million. The downtown casino opened in December. The big loser was another downtown St. Louis casino, the President. It's revenue declined 75 percent — not surprising since the casino that sits directly on the Mississippi River was closed for half the month due to the flood. The biggest gainer was the Mark Twain casino in La Grange, whose revenue increased 14 percent. Related Links

Why is it insane? Restaurants, theaters, stores and hotels are full of customers. Sikeston rodeo was sold out and people were there for the entire week. Maybe our economy is not as dire as is being presented to us by media?
This is just insane. No wonder a couple of locals are trying to get a piece of the casino pie.
