Local trucking company expands business operationsTuesday, August 12, 2008
Elfrink Transportation of Cape Girardeau has acquired Tidwell Express of Fredericktown, Mo. The move will the trucking company headquartered at 1326 Southern Expressway in Cape Girardeau to expand its business into additional areas of the Midwest while offering more early morning deliveries to local companies. Customers Elfrink delivers to include Spartech, General Electric and Wal-Mart, as well as numerous local businesses. Just two years ago, Elfrink was a local delivery company. Today, the company has offices in St. Louis, Chicago, Memphis and Fredericktown. Elfrink vice president Jay Niendorf said Tidwell's 14 employees will retain their jobs. While Cape Girardeau has the bulk of employees at 60, its workforce of 85 is scattered throughout the Midwest. Though news of businesses closures has become as common as the sun rising each day, companies like Elfrink are bucking that trend. "We've done this by being real careful and aggressive," Niendorf said. "Our company has to continue exploring ways to improve how we conduct business and this announcement is just one way of surviving in today's marketplace." I knew it was purchased by a group of cardiovascular docs, but just figured they were going to reconfigure the interior of the building not demolish and rebuild. Can't say I blame them, that building was in awful shape anyway.
It's common knowledge the K's building was bought by Cardiovascular Consultants for construction of their new facilities etc...
In regards to the K's building, I have all but one piece of information left for an article updating what will happen. Look for that very shortly.
It is suspose to be some sort of a Doctors' offices or whatnot going into the old K's building.
How is buying a competitor growing? Just means that now they don't have any local competition & they can starting raising their local delivery rates. Local folks will start looking for alternate shipping means & eventually some of these drivers will be out of a job.
Tidwell's provided a unique service to this area & will be greatly missed! Hate to hear this!
