Legal line-up for the week of July 28Saturday, July 26, 2008
Think of this as the SE Live's "Good Bets" of the court beat. Here's what happening in local courts this week. Monday, July 28, 10 a.m. Associate Circuit Judge Gary A. Kamp's courtroom in Jackson A preliminary hearing for Seth Pulliam, charged with a string of burglaries in Jackson. Pulliam is one of several men charged in connection with these thefts, and at this hearing, Judge Kamp will hear the state's evidence and make a ruling on whether there exists enough probable cause to hold the case for circuit court. Also on Monday, jury trial begins for a Matthews, Mo. man charged with first degree murder, two charges of first degree assault, burglary, witness tampering, and two counts of armed criminal action. Vincent K. Minner is accused of shooting Michael Terry at his Sikeston apartment on Dec. 5, 2007. The trial is actually in Boone County, Mo. on a venue change from Scott County. Tuesday, July 29, 8:30 a.m. Division I/II courtroom in Jackson, before Circuit Judge Benjamin F. Lewis Anthony A. Howard, jury trial for burglary and theft charges. Jury trial can be fun to watch, and informative, but remember, jury selection can drag on for the first hour or two. Wednesday, July 30, 8:30 a.m. Jury trial for Andrew Jackson, on drug offenses. If you're interested in learning about search and seizure law, drug trials can be fascinating.
