Edgar says he hasn't looked at another schoolThursday, July 24, 2008
SEMO men’s basketball coach Scott Edgar called me a short time ago after he heard about the caller on today’s Sports Huddle radio show saying Edgar had applied for an assistant’s position at another university. Edgar said he wanted to set the record straight, telling me: “I have not applied or talked to anybody about any assistant coaching position. I’ve got good kids coming in, I’ve got good kids returning. I’m in the middle of July recruiting. I’m involved with very good kids.” Edgar also told me he’s excited that Johnny Hill has been reinstated to play for the 2008-09 season, without penalty from the NCAA. I’m happy for Hill as well, because he genuinely seems like a good kid. Hill, who will be a junior, was suspended for the final three games of the 2007-08 season because of an NCAA investigation into events that took place when he attended Vashon High School in St. Louis. Hill, a 6-foot-4 guard/forward, has seen limited action during his first two seasons at SEMO, averaging 2.7 points and 1.8 rebounds in a reserve role. In 24 games as a sophomore, Hill averaged 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds. Those are far from spectacular numbers, but Hill is considered among the SEMO’s top defenders so he could play a key role this season Hill was part of Vashon’s state title teams in 2004 and 2006. He was at the center of several of Vashon’s recruiting violations that were part of the reason the Missouri State High School Activities Association last month stripped the Wolverines of three state championships, including the two when Hill played. Former Vashon coach Floyd Irons admitted spending more than $25,000 to rent an apartment for Hill and his brother Bobby, who were from Illinois. Bobby will be entering his junior season at Illinois State. Comments The nature of the Internet makes it impractical for our staff to review every comment. That's nice. Drake Reed's brother is now a sports agent; who was also a former Peay player; who also now represents 4 former (probably Peay) OVC players; who also arranged to have all but Brock, of his former crop of diploma mill, prep standouts, sign with Peay; who used to run a recruiting web site for coaches to pay to receive lists of prospects, while coaching the diploma mill; who as an Peay alum, I am sure has had contact with current Peay coaches and players.. So how many of these diploma mill kids, are being represented now by Reed? Very interesting stuff.
Regarding Martino Brock, after the Austin Peay kid from the same prep school was declared eligible, I just spoke to SEMO director of compliance Jayson Santos and he told me still no word on Brock.
Any word on Brock? The Peay recruit that went to the same prep school was declared eligible by the NCAA just this morning.

I love AP, where else could you make a statement by getting to schedule Belmont twice, for two years in a row..lol. Do we think they are making a statement to the OVC as to who should be the 12th team in the OVC?
Who knows on the JUCO kid, he might be pretty decent, you never know.
Sure...Tied for 1st...until we get into our OVC schedule.
Yep Bill it does matter. It matters to LaMont , his family and the SEMO Mens' BB team. It matters to Edgar and the other coaches and it especially matters to the rest of us Redhawks fans. These young players are going to give it everything they have to move us forward within the OVC. Right now...we're right where we want to be...tied for first!
Does it even matter? We might be so far off track now that it really doesn't matter who we sign. This is a crucial year for Edgar and his staff. It's WIN or he's out.
Hesston.edu NJCAA Division II
LaMont Russell...6'5 forward...avg. 17.5 ppg...10.9 rpg...2.1 apg...59.5% from the floor. First Team All-Region VI.

We generally don't cover those type of summer camps, but I'm sure they are open to the public if you want to check them out.
Marty, is anyone covering the highschool team camps that are taking place at the Show Me Center today and tomorrow? May be a good chance to see early on some of the talent the high school season may bring. Just a thought.

The caller was "Jerry"...a regular on The Huddle...you'd recognize him from his sinister laugh each time he calls...no surprise Jerry has subpar sources...next he'll be reporting that Heinz is stopping their production of ketchup...
