Storms knock out power in eastern Missouri

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

ST. LOUIS (AP) — More than 11,000 AmerenUE customers remain without power after storms rip through eastern Missouri.

The storms began Monday night in northeast Missouri and hit the St. Louis area around midnight. Most of the outages are in the St. Louis area.

There are several reports of downed trees and other storm damage, but no reports of injuries.

The storms and rain brought some relief from the oppressive heat of recent days. High temperatures in the St. Louis area reached the upper 90s on Monday. Tuesday's high was expected to be about 10 degrees cooler.
