It was depressing. It was creepy. It was, well, dark. And it was great.

What can we say? We loved "The Dark Knight."

And we weren't the only ones ready for this movie. Warner Brothers was reporting Friday afternoon that sales from the midnight shows alone totaled $18.5 million from 3,040 theaters. Unfortunately we were unable to contribute to that number (seeing as how we had to help get the paper out and all), but we did go this morning and give it four enthusiastic thumbs up. Go see it. You will not be disappointed!

Do not pass Go, do not collect $200

E! Online reports "reality" TV star Khloe Kardashian was booked following a hearing Friday at Los Angeles Superior Court. Kardashian is expected to (but likely will not in my (Katherine's) opinon) serve a 30-day jail sentence for violating her probation on a DUI charge.

Kardashian was sentenced Aug. 27 to 36 months' probation and community service with the California Department of Transportation. She was also ordered to complete an alcohol-education program. She had pleaded no contest to driving under the influence on March 4, 2007.

Her attorney said July 3 in L.A. Superior Court that she had not completed the alcohol class or the community service.

The following is from Khloe's sister Kim's blog:

"I have been getting asked all day if Khloe is going to jail. I know my fans rely on coming to my blog for the truth...

"Khloe wants you to know she was sentenced to go to jail in regards to her one DUI case last year. Khloe is ready and willing to serve out her sentence, no matter how long and where, and have this resolved. I urge people to learn from the mistakes of others. Please drink responsibly and it's never acceptable to drink and drive!"

Oh, OK. Thanks. But it IS acceptable to shirk your punishment for drinking and driving? Great mixed message, Khloe.

Update: Well, I called it. Ms. Kardashian apparently spent a whopping three hours in jail (during which there was a lockdown after a bomb threat) before being release due to —that's right, folks — overcrowding. When is one of these people finally going to do their time???

Spears, KFed reach custody agreement

The LA Times reports that Kevin Federline's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan told OK magazine the deal gave Federline full legal and physical custody of the toddlers while continuing visitation rights for Britney Spears. Kaplan declined to discuss terms of the deal, but said it would be finalized by the court "in the very near future."

Not much drama here as the former couple didn't actually appear at the hearing, but good to know they're getting some stuff straightened out.

Working in a newsroom, we get our fill each week of politics, economics and the fickle Southeast Missouri weather. Reading the paper for eight hours a night can be draining, so in our downtime we spend countless hours (countless, of course, because wešve never bothered to count them) indulging our guilty pleasures: reading about Britney Spears (sorry, we just can't leave her alone!), surfing Internet gossip sites (apparently Amy Winehouse is going to launch her own line of beauty products -- no joke), watching reality TV (why are none of the Real Housewives actual housewives?) and keeping up with our favorite pop-culture trends (gotta love those celebrity couple nicknames). Now we're sharing our love of celebrity scandal and gossip with you.
