Jackson football history book coming out next week

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Nic Antoine will be making the rounds next week for the launch of his book on the history of Jackson high school football.

The official release for "The Jackson Indians 100 Years of Gridiron Glory" is July 22 with an event planned on the Jackson High School campus. The book signing event is set for 4:30 to 7 p.m. and includes. Antoine writes in an e-mail: "Former players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members, alumni and fans are encouraged to attend this event where pre-orders can be redeemed and where books may also be purchased. Cost of the softbound book will be $25 and limited edition hardbound $35."

Antione spent a year writing the book, which has more than 250 pages and includes about 200 photos.

He previously wrote a book on the history of high school in Perryville, covering both Perryville and St. Vincent, which was published in September of 2005.

The book includes statistical information, including every Jackson High School game on record.

The book is being released in advance of the high school's 100th season and after its appearance in the Class 5 state semifinals in Carl Gross' final season as coach. In a brief conversation Monday night, Antione said the book does cover those earlier years in the 1890s when football was played by Jackson Military Academy.
