The Cape Girardeau City Council failed Monday to unanimously endorse a plan to purchase the city's water system from Union Electric. The council already has approved a measure to place an $11.8 million bond issue on the November ballot to allow voters to decide whether the city should purchase the water system. WHAT A SURPRISE when I drove through Lorimier Cemetery last week. They have blacktopped the streets. It really looks nice. Also, the flowers planted are very pretty, too. Thank you. I'M A STUDENT at Central High School and I don't understand how they can force us to stay in school when the heat is so extreme. I'd like to see the administrators come here and sweat through the whole day. Maybe then they'd realize this excessive heat is not conducive to learning...
